Automatic Mushroom Farm Ban

Due to the fact that people can't seem to follow the rules set in place months ago about laggy farms, meaning admins have had to deal with them since, the automatic mushroom farms that release water are being banned.

If you have one of these farms (any type of farm that releases more than 1 block of water for each plant being broken), you must have it disabled.

In one week from this post being made, any of these farms found functioning will be worldedited away.

all i want to add is that every layer or every 2 layers get triggers individually

That doesn't matter. It's still a ton of water flowing at once. "Layer" is not a definite amount; one layer can have as much water as ten layers depending on the size.

why not ban frost walker then, too? because every base over 50 squareblocks will lag quite a lot when all that security water melts again

Just to be clear , these rules alongside the other rules regarding farms are "Fair Use" rules.

These are not here so we can manage drug prices or the economy but simply to allow every player the same guaranteed and consistent experience as these farms and ones similar while each one may not specifically cause lag, they can significantly contribute and destroy the quality of the server for all players.

Thank you for understanding.

yes i understand. if some players can make better farms than others it's considered unfair.

Ollivankinovi asked me to post this:

I can understand that for a big server, lag can be a real issue. Also I
dont want to play on a laggy server.
But I dont understand this rule:
"If you have one of these farms (any type of farm that releases more
than 1 block of water for each plant being broken)"
Does this mean as long as my farm has only 1 source block of water, it
is fine?
It doesnt matter how much this water spreads?
Can i build a giant mushroom farm that gets harvested by pistons?
(without water)

If i go to this site: http://mc-drugs.com/threads/server-rules.4/
I cannot see any rule about lag.
I then found something here about farm design:
http://mc-drugs.com/threads/rules-update-farm-designs.4029/

The rules seem to me very unclear. How do I know what farms can i build?
It would be cool if every player could see how much lag his/her chunks
causes.
And then there could be a rule "To prevent lag: Dont have more than xx
lagunits on your chunks, check your status with /yyyy"

We built this giant mushroom farm with a clever redstone mechanic to
avoid lag,
we though this would work, but apparently it did not?

The rules change, and it is your responsibility to stay refreshed with them. As for the gray area you asked about, the new rule prevents lag from water. Even if you say your farm has a clever redstone machine, it will still release water the same way it would originally. Right? Maybe just at a different pace. The rule dictates that for every 1 plant block, there can only be up to one water block. It can't get much simpler than that. The number of water blocks cannot be greater than the number of plant blocks. Thus, when the "waterfall" farm is used, the number of water blocks temporarily far outnumbers plant blocks.
I would also like to point out that the rule says "any of these farms found functioning will be worldedited away". Technically, you wouldn't even be punished. Also, had you not posted about your farm, the likelihood of your farm being busted would have been slim. That's my two cents, anyways.

Best of luck

_Debug is absolutely correct. Also, the rule is not on the rules thread because that thread is not updated often, and I forgot to add it when I made the post about the rule. It is, however, listed in the /rules ingame, which players are more likely to learn the rules from.

Our faction had 2 of these farms and 1 had all the redstone world edited out and the other was completely deleted before/around the same time the forum post was made.

Ollivan again:

(i put what _debug said in "")

"Even if you say your farm has a clever redstone machine,it will still
release water the same way it would originally.
Right? Maybe just at a different pace"

Thats what stops the lag.
Imagine all people would always go shopping at exactly 3pm.
The shops would be filled up at 3pm and it would be very difficult to
shop. (lag)
Or everyone spreads around the day and no matter when you go shopping
there will be no lag. (what our farm does)

"The rule dictates that for every 1 plant block, there can only be up to
one water block.
It can't get much simpler than that. The number of water blocks cannot
be greater than the number of plant blocks.
Thus, when the "waterfall" farm is used, the number of water blocks
temporarily far outnumbers plant blocks."

Following this rule our farm is legal. (the first screenshot on this page)
At any time it has far more farm blocks (mycelium) than water.
Also at any time it has far more mushrooms than water.
So we can reactivate it and it will not be removed right?
Because it doesnt cause lag, and it follows the rules

.. and i can only second that.

also, concerning the fact 'rules change', i give you that. but, it's kind of annoying when, as soon as you have an extensive farm finished, it gets banned because of changing rules

Please stop making assumptions thinking that you know how the server works/what causes lag. We're much more aware of the factors of server performance of our own server than you are. We don't make up rules like this for fun, we do it to keep the server experience smooth. If you were on the server last Saturday during the drop party/event, you would know the kind of lag that these farms cause. I wouldn't have made this rule if I didn't have to. It sucks, but you need to adapt to changes in the server as the map goes on, the number of huge farms increase, and the performance of the server must be prioritized.

This thread has gone beyond discussion of the rule change, so it is now locked. If you have any actual constructive criticism or questions about the rule change, feel free to PM me here on the website.
