Rare items = $$$?

Looking at all the items I have, it's sad to know that they are now useless since it's coming the end of the wipe, and no one will want to buy anything.

My quick suggestion is that perhaps a week before the wipe, certain items, such as staff flowers, can be traded in for either Player Points, or Misc commands such as /hat or a nickname. As stated by Dakotaa, this would be too much work. Therefore, perhaps next map? It would encourage players to carry on playing after the wipe, as at least their hard work hasn't gone all to waste.

Thoughts?

No. The point of the wipe is to be a clean slate for everyone. This would completely eliminate the purpose of resetting everything.

Clean slate + paid ranks, right? Doesn't really sound like "Fresh start".

The point is that to many players, losing everything is hard considering you worked a long time for it. What's the point in buying keys and runes if it's all going to be gone on the 12th? Being able to buy a rank such as VIP for all your hard work would encourage players to carry on playing next map and so on.

I'm not saying to give players tonnes of stuff for next map. I'm suggesting that these items can actually be put to use. Letting players buy VIP ect with the rares they gained over the year doesn't give an advantage. It just means that it wasn't all wasted.

How on earth would an ability such as /hat bought with rares traded in give an advantage?

First of all, donator ranks make up most of the donations to the server, keeping it running. I am sure that 90% of players would rather have donators keep their rank after the wipe than have ranks be a one-per-map payment. The perks of donator ranks do not affect the way they start the map much, the items in the kit can be obtained easily in 1-2 hours of gameplay.

The point of buying keys and other consumables is for the experience and the fact that they are a one time gamble. You are meant to realize that the items you get from them won't last forever, but they will enhance your playing experience as long as you have them.

Finally, the system you propose would be far too much work for staff, who are currently very busy preparing the new map.

I for one don't want donator ranks to be gone after the wipe. Never said that. What I am saying is that next map, a system should be set up so that these rares can be traded it for Misc commands ect, such as, suggested before, /hat or a nickname. These items do not affect gameplay and thus do not give an advantage. That's all.
