Myself and ThaCandyMan went to the base in question and looked around. We tested the possibility that you may have seen a name tag from the surface but we found that was not possible.
I rolled back the chunk to see what was there and saw you had dug straight down towards chests. There was no entities in the block you had begun to dig down from so that possibility was ruled out also.
