Farms and Grinders

Banned Farm Designs

The following designs are not allowed under any circumstances.

  1. Farms that start/stop the flow of water, or create/remove water source blocks (e.g. using pistons, dispensers with water buckets, or placing water buckets) are not allowed under any circumstances.
  2. Automatic farms that use hoppers, droppers, dispensers, and/or pistons are not allowed in the Towny world. The exception to this rule is Hoppers used for collecting fallen cactus.
  3. Automatic farms that in any way use clocks clocks or redstone to harvest are not allowed in the Towny world.
  4. Automatic fish farms and fishing machines are not allowed under any circumstances.

Redstone and Auto-farms

Redstone devices like zero-tick farms, or any other redstone device which dupes or takes advantages of exploits are not allowed.

The type of redstone devices that are allowed will change as the game changes. If your farm does not fall under any of these examples but is causing significant lag it will still be disabled - build your farms with that in mind. Here are some general rules and suggestions to reduce lag on your farms:

  1. When using pistons, try to only set off the necessary amount to harvest, not an entire row.
  2. Do not spam pistons when harvesting. Pistons must go off only once.
  3. Detect grown crops with an observer instead of a timer, or have multiple timers with smaller sections so they do not activate at the same time.
  4. Reduce unnecessary light updates from redstone where possible. i.e. mushroom farms that use lights to break mushrooms should have spacers or be set up in a way that does not set off more than a few lights to harvest.
  5. Farms using flying machines must have the flying machine stop for at least two minutes after each cycle (roughly 4.5 stacks of items in a hopper clock).

If you have a farm of any sort using crop hoppers, set up Disposal chests and link crop hoppers to them (see Disposal Chest)

Spawners

Rules about mob grinders must generally follow the same guidelines as the redstone farms above: Do not spam pistons to kill mobs and make sure the farm has some form overflow protection if it gets too full to prevent lag.

AFK Farming

Farms that can be "manually" harvested or planted while AFK will not be allowed. This notably includes the types of farms that let you hold your mouse button down and harvest crops while AFK, usually taking advantage of auto-replant and/or being moved around by water or some other means.

Towny Farms

Towny farms can only be manual farms. Automatic farms are not permitted in the Towny world.

- Automatic farms that in any way use clocks clocks or redstone to harvest are not allowed in the Towny world.

- Check which world you are currently in with /worldcheck
- Farms that start/stop the flow of water, or create/remove water source blocks (e.g. using pistons, dispensers with water buckets, or placing water buckets) are not allowed under any circumstances.
- Farms that can be manually harvested while AFK (e.g. holding down a button while being moved by water) are not allowed under any circumstances.
- Farms that create a large amount of lighting updates, or unnecessary lighting updates, are not allowed under any circumstances.
- Farms using flying machines must have the flying machine stop for at least two minutes after each cycle (roughly 4.5 stacks of items in a hopper clock).
Violation of these rules will result in removal of the farm, as well as a warning on first offence and a ban on second offence.
